More than 5,500 runners registered for the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race (DMRR) 2026 by the time registration closed, a record number, according to Dhiraagu.

The company said this year’s race will have the largest number of participants in the event’s history. Registration first opened with 4,000 places, but the number was increased because of strong public demand.

Dhiraagu said the race is notable for more than its size. DMRR 2026 is now officially recognised as a World Athletics ranking competition, so results achieved by participating runners can count toward international rankings.

The race will be held on 20 November at Hulhumale’ Central Park. Categories include a half marathon, 10 kilometres, five kilometres and a newly introduced team category. The event is designed for both experienced runners and newcomers, with the main aim of promoting healthy lifestyles.

As in previous years, the race is dedicated to child safety, a key area of Dhiraagu’s corporate social responsibility programme. The event will give organisations working in this area a chance to raise awareness and funds.

DMRR is the Maldives’ first international race listed on the calendar of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), with a World Athletics certified route. Runners from across the Maldives and from other countries take part.
