Aishath Zamra Zahir, currently Chief Customer Officer (CCO) at Bank of Maldives (BML), has been appointed Managing Director of Addu Hankede Development Corporation Limited, the entity established by the government to develop Hankede in Addu City.
According to Sun, Zamra has been appointed to the position, though an official statement from the Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB) has not yet been obtained.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu established Addu Hankede Development Corporation Limited on 16 July this year. Members of the company's Board of Directors were appointed on 27 August.
The corporation was primarily established to develop Hankede under an integrated tourism development model, aimed at further expanding tourism in the Addu region.
Its objectives also include ensuring the benefits generated from the tourism industry are shared equitably with the residents of Addu City, increasing the city's participation in the sector, and carrying out, in a structured manner, the work required to achieve the government's economic targets associated with the project.
Hankede was designated as a tourism development area under a resolution issued on 2 December 2021, during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
