BML named among Forbes’ World’s Top Performing Banks 2026
Bank of Maldives is one of 500 banks from 89 countries in the first edition of the Forbes and Statista “World’s Top Performing Banks 2026” ranking.
Bank of Maldives (BML) has been included in the “World’s Top Performing Banks 2026” list, compiled by Forbes in partnership with market research firm Statista.
The list is in its first edition and covers 500 banks from 89 countries. BML is the first Maldivian financial institution to appear alongside internationally known banks in the ranking.
Banks were assessed on four financial and operational criteria: profitability, growth and revenue, capital and funding strength, and asset quality and efficiency. The ranking draws on data from providers such as S&P Capital IQ, banks’ published reports and independent studies.
The list is split into six tiers. Tier 1 includes large banks such as JPMorgan Chase, DBS, OCBC and HDFC Bank. BML is in the sixth tier, which covers banks with total assets between USD 3 billion and USD 10 billion, where it was measured against comparable banks in other countries.
BML CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef said the ranking compares banks of BML’s size worldwide using financial data, and shows that the bank rests on strong capital and sound management. He said BML will continue to invest in its foundations, staff and technology, and to support businesses and communities.
The recognition follows BML’s record nine-month results, in which profit after tax reached MVR 1.93 billion, up 26 percent year-on-year.
